HomeMy WebLinkAbout029166 RES - 08/23/2011RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE REQUEST OF NUECES COUNTY TO THE TEXAS HISTORICAL COMMISSION TO LIFT THE DEED RESTRICTIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE 1914 HISTORIC NUECES COUNTY COURTHOUSE WHEREAS, the 1914 Historic Nueces County Courthouse (the building) was built in 1914 and used as a county courthouse until 1977 when the new courthouse was built; and WHEREAS, several efforts were made to restore the building and adapt it for some other community purpose; and WHEREAS, all rehabilitation efforts have failed thus leaving the building in a deteriorated, deplorable and dangerous condition; and WHEREAS, a recent study has concluded that restoration of the building would require financial investment beyond what local government can provide; and WHEREAS, the building, as it stands, constitutes a danger to the public, a blight on the City's landscape, as well as an unappealing sight at the City's front door. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: Section 1. The City of Corpus Christi supports the efforts to have the Texas Historical Commission deed restrictions removed from the 1914 Courthouse thus allowing this community to move forward with a proper decision on the fate of this structure. Section 2. If the final decision is to demolish the 1914 Courthouse, the City of Corpus Christi would fully support those efforts. ATTEST.
