ENDORSING THE REQUEST OF NUECES COUNTY TO THE TEXAS
HISTORICAL COMMISSION TO LIFT THE DEED RESTRICTIONS
ASSOCIATED WITH THE 1914 HISTORIC NUECES COUNTY
COURTHOUSE
WHEREAS, the 1914 Historic Nueces County Courthouse (the building) was built in
1914 and used as a county courthouse until 1977 when the new courthouse was built;
and
WHEREAS, several efforts were made to restore the building and adapt it for some
other community purpose; and
WHEREAS, all rehabilitation efforts have failed thus leaving the building in a
deteriorated, deplorable and dangerous condition; and
WHEREAS, a recent study has concluded that restoration of the building would require
financial investment beyond what local government can provide; and
WHEREAS, the building, as it stands, constitutes a danger to the public, a blight on the
City's landscape, as well as an unappealing sight at the City's front door.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
Section 1. The City of Corpus Christi supports the efforts to have the Texas Historical
Commission deed restrictions removed from the 1914 Courthouse thus allowing this
community to move forward with a proper decision on the fate of this structure.
Section 2. If the final decision is to demolish the 1914 Courthouse, the City of Corpus
Christi would fully support those efforts.
