Mr. Joe Trejo. P E.
Acting Assistant Director of Engineering Operations
City of Corpus Christi
P.O Box 9277
Corpus Christi, Texas 78469
Subject: Allison WWTP Rehabilitation and Other Modifications
City Proiect No. 7162
Dear Joe:
We have been requested by Wastewater Staff to perform the following two items of
additional services for the subject project
1 Provide odor control facilities for the existing Mechanical Bar Screen Structure.
2 Provide study/report for New Mechanical Bar Screen Structure
We have performed preliminary investigations and results show that the existing odor
control equipment recently completed has the capacity to also serve the existing Mechanical
Bar Screen Structure. It is proposed that aluminum covers be added to the openings in the top
of the structure and an interconnecting duct to connect the structure to the existing odor control
blowers. Rehabilitation of the structure is not included with this work. We propose to design
the aluminum covers to fit the top, including around the bar screens, size the air duct, find a
route for the air duct, prepare drawings for proposed improvements, prepare specifications for
the aluminum covers, submit to the Contractor for cost proposal, answer contractor questions,
negotiate the change order, prepare the change order and check the construction completion
for a fee of $6.240 (see attached man-hour breakdown).
The existing Mechanical Bar Sqeen Structure is incurring significant concrete
deterioration in the influent chamber due to the sewer gases. This chamber has suffered loss
of concrete along the face of the walls and ceiling from the H2S released as the raw wastewater
enters this structure Repair of this structure has been discussed but it may be more cost
effective overall to replace the structure with a new structure and equipment sized for the future
expansion to 75 MGD. We have been requested to prepare an engineering letter report for
this structure. The report will address issues with the existing structure including age,
equipment condition, structural condition and force main connection to the unit, alternatives for
continued screening for this plant and a recommendation, including costs, for improvements.
We propose to prepare this letter report for a fee of $14,960.

In addition, we have provided engineering services for adding work to the original scope
of the construction project as requested by. Wastewater Dept. staff. We are requesting that an
amount of $3,590 be provided to cover the additional engineering services. To date there have
been three change orders totaling $70,719 and $33,900 of the Utility Allowance used. The
additional engineering services Included meeting with or discussing with Wastewater Staff the
proposed work, investigating and taking measurements, preparing drawings, coordinating the
work with the Contractor, negotiating a cost with the Contractor, preparing change orders and
checking the completed work The items of work added to the construction contract include the
following:
1 Revise polymer system for sludge dewatering system.
2 Provide additional concrete pavement for chemical deliveries.
3 Remove existing sodium hypochlorite and bisulfate abandoned tanks.
4 Repair of Sludge Dewatering Building roll-up services doors.
5 Concrete pavement repair at Grit Chamber and adding concrete parking spaces.
We request that our present AE contract be amended by a total of $24,790 to add the
engineering services to accomplish this additional work noted above. A man-hour breakdown
for each of the items discussed above is attached. Please review and let me know should you
have any questions or comments
Sincerely,
