Box 9277 Corpus Christi, Texas 78469 TRANSMITTED VIA EMAIL Subject: Oso Water Reclamation Plant Effluent Reuse Puma Station (Rebid) City Project No. 7259 Dear Pete: Urban Engineering completed the plans and specifications for the subject project and it is ready for bidding. This project involves construction of a new effluent reuse pump station. It also. included a new non-potable water pumping system which provides two new pumps at the new reuse pump station to replace the two existing pumps, one located at the East NP Pump Station and one at the West NP Pump Station. This non-potable water system was based on existing demands. There is another project being developed at the Oso WRP that provides a new Belt Press Building with three new belt presses. Based on information provided by the design firm, the new building will add approximately 215 GPM of demand to the non-potable water system. We have checked our proposed system and it will not be able to meet the demands of the new belt press building. We are pleased to submit to you a proposal to provide engineering services to design and select new pumps that will provide the capacity to handle the additional demand. We have done preliminary modeling and it appears 75 Hp pumps will have to be provided instead of the proposed 40 Hp pumps. Proposed engineering services will include finalizing the non-potable water system model and selecting a pump; revising plans and specifications for the larger pumps and piping and modifications to the electrical system due to the larger horsepower requirements. Larger horsepower motors require larger starters and it is proposed to delete the starters from the local control panels due to increase in size and add them to the MCCs in the existing climate controlled Electrical Control Room. The electrical work involves changes to seven drawings and adding one new drawing. The existing plant non-potable water system, as shown on the attached Oso Plant Site Layout, is made up of a grid of 3 inch and 4 inch dia. piping. We have found during the preliminary modeling that the demand required by the new Belt Press Building will have an impact on the existing system when all three belt presses are running. It appears that the existing 4 inch piping will work but the system operating pressure around the plant will be in the 70 to 80 psi range and velocities in the 4 inch will be 7 to 10 FPS. The original design of the new pump station was to provide a system with 90 psi operation. If the circled segment shown on the Oso Plant Site Layout is changed to 6 inch dia. the pressures around the plant will increase to 80 to 90 psi and the velocities will be reduced to 4 to 5 FPS. We will be happy to provide a fee proposal to replace this segment of non-potable piping if the City wishes to proceed with this work.
