Subject: Allison WWTP Mechanical Bar Screen and Grit Removal Improvements
City Proiect No. 7417
Dear Dan:
The scope of the subject project including repair of the existing air bridge supports at the
water surface and replacement of the air drops that were observed to be missing from the air
bridges in the West Aeration Basins. When the West Aeration Basins were drained for cleaning
and the repairs and if was found that the underwater support structure for the air bridge in each
of the three basins was severely corroded and needed to be replaced. It was also determined
that the existing drain valve for W. Aeration Basin No. 1 was broken and non- functioning. This
valve is buried approximately 12' deep on the outside of the basin. We were requested by staff
to add to the scope of the project the replacement of the underwater air bridgetair drop support
structure and to replace the buried broken drain valve. The aeration basin work was done in
three phases, only one basin could be taken out of service at a time. A summary of the costs
of the additional work added to the construction contract is provided in the following:
W. Aeration Basin No. 1 air system repairs:
$23,972
W. Aeration Basin No. 2 air system repairs:
$23,972
W. Aeration Basin No. 3 air system repairs:
$23,972
W. Aeration Basin No. 1 drain valve replacement:
$16,16 5
Total Additional Construction Cost
$88,081
The additional engineering services required for this item include initial investigation,
located original equipment drawings, develop scope and plans, contacting the Contractor
concerning the additional work, negotiating and preparing change order, submittal review,
answering Contractor questions, checking progress and checking completion.
We request that our present AE contract be amended by $5,285 to add the engineering
services to accomplish this additional work. Please review and let me know should you have
any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
URBAN ENGINEERING
