SUBJECT: Contract Amendment Two
Williams Drive—Nile Drive to Airline Road, Phase 2 (6467)
Dear Mr. Biles:
The above referenced contract is currently in the construction phase. A part of the
proposed improvements currently include some modifications to a gravity collection
system which conveys wastewater into the Williams Lift Station. During the course of
construction, it has been determined that the field condition of the existing collection
system is much worse than anticipated in the initial design. Based on discussions with
City staff, a decision has been made to completely replace the deteriorated collection
system components as part of the current construction project. The existing system
receives flow from the Wooldridge Lift Station which in turn receives flow from several
other lift stations. Shutting down the system and by-passing the flow will be a major
undertaking.
Naismith Engineering, Inc. has been asked to complete a detailed assessment of the
condition of the existing system and to develop a detailed construction plan for replacing
several components of the existing system as part of this project. The scope of work will
include the following:
1. Evaluate the condition of the existing gravity feed system.
2. Develop and present options for the upgrade to City Engineering and Wastewater
Department.
3. Based on City input, NEI will develop a detailed set of construction documents to
present to the Contractor.
4. NEI will assist with obtaining a change order proposal from the Contractor, and will
assist the City with the approval process.
5. NEI will assist with the coordination required to shut down the system and install
the by-pass pumping system.
6. NEI will complete site visits and final inspections on the completed system.

The proposed modifications will include replacing some existing gravity lines and
manholes with new HDPE/PVC lines and fiberglass manholes which are located within
the Williams R.O.W. immediately upstream of the Williams Lift Station. The two new
manholes will be 12' diameter and 6' diameter and will be installed in conjunction with
new 24" and 30" gravity lines. The effort will require installing a bypass system to divert
all the flow from a 30" Force Main as well as flow from a 36" gravity line during the
replacement of the gravity feed system.
Based on the scope of the proposed improvements, our cost to complete the work will be
$42,000; therefore the total requested for Amendment Two is $42,000.00.We thank you
for our consideration and approval. Should you have any questions, please do not
hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
NAISMITH ENGINEERING, INC.
