The esals for a local street per city infrastructure design manual (30)year design is 50,000 esals. Added calculated esals for 1 year busses to the esals for local traffic for a total of 106,000 flex&rigid esals Rigid concrete thickness per design program is 5 inches(city required for local streets is 6"concrete with 8"of lime stabilized subgrade). I recommend using the city requirements for local streets as the minimum pavement section. Flex Pavement SN=2.5. The table below provides two pavement sections meeting the minimum SN requirements: • Recommended Pavement Sections Hot Mix Asphaltic Concrete 2" 2" Crushed Limestone Base Material(TxDOT 8" 12" Item 247 Type A; Gr. 1) Lime Stabilized Subgrade(4%) 8" -- The upper 12 inches of the exposed raw subgrade samples shall be compacted to a minimum density of 98% of the maximum dry density as determined by the standard Proctor test (ASTM D698) and at, or above the optimum moisture content. Lime placement and mixing operations should be performed in accordance with TxDOT Item 260, "LIME TREATMENT FOR MATERIALS USED AS SUBGRADE (ROAD MIXED)." Lime shall be mixed with the natural in-situ soils at a rate of 4-percent based on the maximum dry unit weight of the raw subgrade soils as determined by the standard Proctor(ASTM D698). After proper curing time, usually 48 to 72 hours, the lime stabilized soils should be remixed and compacted to a minimum density of 98% of the maximum dry unit weight of the lime stabilized subgrade soils as determined by a standard Proctor test(ASTM D698)and at, or above, the optimum moisture content. A single layer of TENSAR BX1100 geogrid placed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations on top of 12-inches of raw subgrade compacted to a minimum density of 98% of the maximum dry unit weight of the raw subgrade soils as determined by a standard Proctor test (ASTM D 698) and at, or above, the optimum moisture content may be substituted for lime stabilization in flexible pavement areas,if desired. Hot mix asphaltic concrete should meet the requirements set forth in TxDOT Item 340; Type D, or C, surface course. The recommended light and heavy-duty rigid pavement sections arc provided in the following table: Rigid Pavement Reinforced Concrete 6" Lime Stabilized Subgrade(4%) 8" Concrete pavement is recommended in areas that receive continuous repetitive traffic such as loading/unloading lanes, drive-thru lanes and driveway entrances. The concrete pavement should be properly reinforced and jointed, as per ACI, and should have a minimum 28-day compressive strength of 4000 psi. High early strength concrete can be utilized and will assist in expediting the phases of construction. Expansion joints should be sealed with an appropriate sealant so that moisture infiltration into the subgrade soils and resultant concrete deterioration at the joints is minimized. The joints should be thoroughly cleaned and sealant should be installed without overfilling before pavement is opened to traffic.
