Subject: Allison WWTP Lift Station and Plant Improvements
City Project No. E10043
Dear Jeff:
We have an A/E Agreement to provide design services for the subject project. This project
involves improvements to the plant lift station, site electrical, and other plant improvements.
During the project kickoff meeting it was revealed that the Wastewater CIP project funds allocated
for this project were greater than the initial scope of the NE contract. Additional items of work
were discussed and they are listed in the following:
• Second Emergency Generator (to serve Blower MCC): There are two Motor Control
Center rooms, one in the Plant Lift Station and one in the Blower Building. The scope of
original project is to provide one diesel powered generator for backup power supply to the
Plant Lift Station. A second generator is proposed as back power supply to Blower
Building, particularly the blowers, which are critical to providing the oxygenation and
mixing of the treatment system. Second generator works includes a new automatic
transfer switch and main breaker in the Blower Building.
• Thickener Scraper Mechanism Clean and Coat (both Pre-Thickener and Post Thickener):
Existing scraper equipment is the original equipment installed in 1984 and is showing
significate corrosion. It is proposed to sandblast the existing equipment, provide for minor
repairs as necessary and paint all steel items. This work could be done while the unit is
drained to replace the scum baffles already called for to be replaced in the original scope.
• Replace Odor Control Underdrain Pan: The bottom grate that supports the odor control
media has broken, allowing the media to spill into the lower chamber. It is proposed to
replace the lower grate, reinstall the media and return the odor control system to service.
• Replace Lift Station 1984 Roof Addition Siding and Roofing The existing lift station was
constructed in 1964 but the roof was raised and modified to accommodate a bridge crane
in the 1984 expansion. The existing roof and siding are over 30 years old and have
exceeded their service life. Portions of the siding have rotted away. It is proposed to
rehabilitate the existing roof structure over the dry pit side of the Plant Lift Station.
We have prepared preliminary estimates for each of the items listed above and they are
presented in the following table. Based on the project budget it appears that there is $746,880 of
additional funds available.
