Director of Engineering Services City of Corpus Christi P. O. Box 9277 Corpus Christi, Texas 78469 Subject Laguna Madre Headworks and Bar Screen Improvements City Project No. E10048 Dear Jeff: The City has requested that we pursue a change order with the Contractor for the subject project for some additional rehabilitation work at the Laguna Madre WWTP. The additional work items are discussed in the following: ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION SCOPE 1. Aeration Basin Sluice Gate Replacement: There are two 24" sluice gates mounted in the Aeration Basin discharge trough on the pipes that feed the two Final Clarifiers. These sluice gates were installed in 1982 and are in need of replacement due to their age and condition. These gates allow isolation of the Final Clarifiers. We will need to determine the following: a. How to isolate and dewater the trough to allow access to the gates. b. Determine best method to replace the gates, whether we can replace the gates with the same type or cut off the wall pipe and mount the new gate to the concrete wall. c. How to keep the Aeration Basin in service while the gates are replaced. 2. Digester Air System Replacement: The existing air piping and air system for the Aerobic Digester was install in the 1982 and is failing due to significate corrosion. A plan view of the Digester is attached. The air header runs along the center wall and sits right above the water surface. It appears that the header on each side of the wall and piping up to the header will need to be replaced from the new air header installed outside the basin installed in approx. 2006. Scope appears to be to tie into the 2006 air header above the ground outside of basin, run new air piping to the walkway, run a new air header along each side along the edge of the concrete walkway, extend and reconnect the existing air drops, reconnect to auxiliary air pipes to airlift pumps and install new handrail along the concrete walkway on the inside of the new air headers. We will need to determine the following: a. Can we replace the air headers while the basins are still in service or will they need to be drained partially or completely. b. Is there room to route the parallel air headers along the top of the concrete walkway. c. How to tie into the existing newer air header. d. How to extend and connect the existing air drops to the new air header. There are vertical 1" dia. air drops at 18" on center along the air headers that will need to be reconnected.
