Corpus Christi,Texas
RETL Proposal Number: P100413A
Dear Mr. Biles,
Rock Engineering and Testing Laboratory, Inc. (RETL) (TBPE Firm No. 2101) is pleased to submit the
following proposal to perform a subsurface investigation and laboratory testing program and provide
geotechnical recommendations for the proposed Nesbitt Drive Pavement Evaluation Project (City of
Corpus Christi Project No. 6491) located on Nesbitt Drive (Sunnybrook Road to McArdle Road) in
Corpus Christi, Texas.
It is understood that approximately 1,300 linear feet of Hot Mix Asphaltic Pavement located on Nesbitt
Drive from Sunnybrook Road to McArdle Road is showing distress including potholes, alligator cracking
and depressions.
The proposed boring number, depth and location is provided in the table below:

RETL will obtain pavement cores and sample, identify and measure the pavement constituents at each
boring location. The scope of work is provided below.
Scope of the Proposed Subsurface Investigation
• RETL requests that the boring/core locations are staked in the field prior to the field investigation.
• Coordination with Texas One Call will be performed by RETL to identify underground utilities in the
proximity of the boring/core locations. The borings/cores will be relocated if necessary.
• RETL will provide proper traffic control and traffic control devices, if required by the City of Corpus
Christi, during our field investigation.
• Soil samples will be obtained at predetermined depths, unless subsurface conditions warrant
additional sampling.
• The drilling operations will be completed utilizing a standard geotechnical drilling rig equipped with a
rotary head turning hollow stem augers to advance the boreholes.
• The test borings will be sampled continuously to 15-feet, the termination depth of the test borings, and
relatively undisturbed Shelby tube soil samples will be obtained and alternated with static cone
penetrometer tests.

• Relatively undisturbed Shelby tube soil samples and static cone penetrometer tests will be performed
at the same depth at each boring location.
• Undisturbed soil samples will be obtained using thin-wall tube sampling procedures in accordance
with "Thin {Gulled Tube Sampling of Soils, (ASTM Dl 587).•
• The borings will be advanced to the depth specified above.
• Groundwater readings will be obtained during drilling and immediately upon completion of the
drilling operations.
• After obtaining the delayed groundwater readings, the open boreholes will be backfilled with excess
soils obtained during the drilling operations, the base material will be replaced in the boreholes and
patched with cold mix.
Scope of Laboratory Testing Program
• Supplementary Visual Classification(ASTM D2487)
• Water Content Tests (ASTM D2216)
• Atterberg Limits Tests (ASTM D4318)
• Unconfined Compressive Strength Tests (ASTM D2166)
• Percent Material Finer Than The#200 Sieve Tests (ASTM Dl 140)
All phases of the laboratory testing program will be performed in general accordance with applicable
ASTM Specifications. All field and laboratory test results will be included on the boring logs or provided
in the report.
Projected Schedule
After authorization, the drilling operations can be completed on Friday, October 11, 2013 and the final
report will be submitted within one week of the completed fieldwork. RETL will consult with the design
team as field and laboratory test results become available. If adjustments to the proposed timeline are
required to meet the existing project schedule, please contact RETL so that we can accommodate your
needs.
Geotechnical Engineering Report
In addition to the field and laboratory testing, a geotechnical engineering report will be prepared that
includes a description of the field exploration and laboratory tests, boring logs, a discussion of the
engineering properties of the subsurface materials encountered and geotechnical recommendations.
