SCOPE OF WORK
Water and Wastewater Treatment On-Call Support
Project No. E16264
Task Authorization No. 42— ONSWTP Effluent Filter Piping Assessment
PURPOSE
The ON Stevens WTP uses sand and anthracite filters in both Plant 1 and Plant 2. Filtered Water
from Filters in both the North and South Buildings flows through a 20-inch pipe from each filter
unit to a closed filtered water flume. Corrosion has been recently observed at locations where the
20-inch pipe passes through concrete to convey water to the filtered water flume. The condition
of 20-inch pipes inside the flume cannot be observed, which is also suspected to be corroded.
The purpose of this task authorization is to provide assistance to the City by performing an
assessment of these 20-inch pipes. Under this task authorization, visual and ultrasonic testing
(to be performed by HOT Inspection Services, Inc.) of pipes will be performed to define the
condition of pipe walls. In this phase of the task, power tool cleaning and minimal destructive
testing may be necessary. A total of 4 pipes will be evaluated representing approximately 20% of
the 22 pipes present, two (2) from each Filter location (North and South). A report (produced by
HOT Inspection Services, Inc.) will be issued to the City detailing the results of testing and
recommending for remedial measures needed in order to resolve the issues.
Based on the findings of the assessment, the City will make decisions regarding the future course
of action and a separate task authorization may be issued for the implementation of selected
remedial measures.
