Risley, City Attorney 039151 From: rollintideboils@gmail.com <rollintideboils@gmail.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 8, 2020 11:57 AM To:Joe McComb <Joe.McComb@cctexas.com> Subject: Requested meeting Mayor McComb, Good morning. My name is Shawn Taylor. My fiance (Kassie) and I have owned/operated a very successful small business here in Corpus Christi for the past 4 years. Our business is quite unique in that we cater family dinners on the beach, specifically a good old fashioned Shrimp Boil around a bonfire complete with Adirondack Chairs and Tiki torches and music. (I'll include a picture of what our setup looks like below.) We take care of locals frequently, but the majority of our customers are families here on vacation that are looking for a memorable dining experience on the beaches of the coastal bend. Currently we employ about 12 students from TAMUCC that aid us in putting on 4 or 5 dinners per evening during the summer months. We serve the beaches of North Padre Island, Mustang Island and Port Aransas. And currently we are rated as the#1 seafood restaurant in Port Aransas on both Yelp and TripAdvisor. We are experiencing difficulties this summer due to Governor Abbott's latest reduction of most group events to 10 persons or less. The problem is that the size of our normal private family groups range from as low as 6-8 guests up to around 50... with probably an average of around 25 guests. Not being able to host groups of more than 10 has had a severe financial crippling effect on our business. One that I hope you will grant us some relief from. Per the Governor's order a local Mayor or County Judge may issue exceptions to the rule of 10 persons in a group IF proper social distancing and other mitigating measures are implemented. We can (and have)very easily implement many measures which we believe make us a prime candidate for some relief from this group of 10 mandate. We respectful ask for a short 15-30 minute meeting to discuss the possibility of you granting us relief during these difficult times. Time is of the essence as our business is a seasonal one and with each passing day, we lose more and more potential customers. Once Labor Day passes our season is made or lost. If we are granted some relief from the rule of 10 it would greatly increase our chances of being around to serve our guests next year. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. We know that you are extremely busy during these trying times and will keep the meeting brief. Respectfully, Shawn Taylor and Kassie Smith Rollin' Tide Boil Co. 14493 S.P.I.D. Ste.
