HomeMy WebLinkAbout032353 DEC - 02/21/2021 DECLARATION OF LOCAL DISASTER WHEREAS, Greg Abbott, Governor of the State of Texas, certified on the 12th day of February 2021 "that severe winter weather poses an imminent threat of widespread and severe property damage, injury, and loss of life due to prolonged freezing temperatures, heavy snow,and freezing rain statewide"and declared a state of disaster in all 254 counties based on the existence of such threat; WHEREAS,the City of Corpus Christi(City)on February 14th through 18th of 2021 suffered widespread and severe property damage and injury due to prolonged freezing temperatures,loss of electricity,and freezing rain;and WHEREAS,the Mayor of Corpus Christi has determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect or rehabilitate property. NOW, THEREFORE, I, THE MAYOR AND PRESIDING OFFICER OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,HEREBY PROCLAIM AND DECLARE: 1. A local state of disaster is declared to exist for the City, which takes effect immediately, and, pursuant to §418.108(b) of the Government Code, shall continue for a period of not more than 7 days from the date of this declaration unless terminated earlier,continued,or renewed by the City Council of Corpus Christi. 3. This declaration directs the City Manager to activate the recovery and rehabilitation aspects of all applicable local or interjurisdictional emergency management plans, authorizes the furnishing of all aid and assistance, as deemed necessary or desirable by those administering the plans, and activates the preparedness and response aspects of the plans. 4. Pursuant to §418.108(c)of the Government Code,this declaration of a local state of disaster shall be given prompt and general publicity and shall be filed promptly with the City Secretary. 5. This Declaration hereby incorporates for all purposes the aforementioned disaster declaration of Greg Abbott,Governor of the State of Texas. 6. The Mayor orders that no person shall sell any of the following goods or services for more than the regular retail price the person charged for the goods and services on February 11, 2021, except where increased retail price is the result of increased supplier or other costs(including the loss of supplier supporting funds): a.groceries,beverages,toilet articles,and ice, b.restaurant,cafeteria,and boarding-house meals, c.medicine,pharmaceutical,and medical equipment and supplies, d.hotel rooms,motel rooms,or any other temporary lodging available to the public,and e.gas and other fuels,including propane and diesel. 7.
