expand or improve the American Bank Center and surrounding property.
WHEREAS, the American Bank Center was the most visited attraction in the Corpus
Christi area in 2019;
WHEREAS, there is substantial demand for additional expanded Convention Center,
connected/walkable hotel rooms, and more restaurants, bars & retail within the vicinity of
the ABC;
WHEREAS, financing incentives will allow the City of Corpus Christi to improve cultural
and -entertainment venues within its city limits
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT:
That the City of Corpus Christi seeks the introduction and passage of legislation to
authorize the City to create a "project financing zone" under Chapter 351, Tax Code and
qualify the City for certain state tax rebates designed to enhance the public private
partnership necessary to improve and enlarge the American Bank Center and construct
a nearby convention center hotel and related infrastructure and amenities.
