Whitney Dr. James L. Barnard City Attorney I. M. Singer J. R. de Leon City Secretary T. Ray Kring M. P. Maldonado W. J. Roberts Jim Young Mayor Ben F. McDonald called the meeting to order, and announced the purpose of the special meeting was to consider the calling of an election on certain proposed amendments to the City Charter, and such other business as may properly come before the Council. City Secretary T. Ray Kring called the roll of those in attend- ance. ORDINANCE NO. 6167 ORDERING AN ELECTION TO BE HT,D IN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, ON THE 15TH DAY OF JULY, 1961, UPON THE QUESTION ADOPTING AMENDMENTS TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI; PROVIDING FOR PLACES WHERE SUCH ELECTION SHALL BE HELD; PROVIDING FOR THE HOLDING -OF SUCH ELECTION, INCLUDING THE NAMING OF OFFICIALS TO CONDUCT SUCH ELECTION; SETTING FORTH THE PROPOSITIONS TO BE VOTED ON AT SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR NOTICE OF SUCH ELECTION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The Charter rule was suspended by the following vote: All Council Members present and voting "Aye". The foregoing ordinance was passed by the following vote: All Council Members present and voting "Aye Motion by Young, seconded by Barnard and passed that the action of the Council on June 7, 1961, concerning the third and final reading of an ordinance granting a franchise to the Inland Limousine Service, Inc., be re- considered, and a re -poll of the Council be taken. ORDINANCE NO. 6172 GRANTING TO INLAND LIMOUSINE SERVICE, INC., A FRANCHISE TO ENGAGE IN Th BUSINESS OF OPERATING A SIGHTSEEING SERVICE ON AND OVER THE PUBLIC STREETS WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF CORPUS CHRISTI; PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF 2% OF THE GROSS RECEIPTS PER MONTH, AND PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF AD VALOREM TAXES, CHARGES, RENTAL 'FRES OR OBLIGATIONS FEES WHICH MAY BE LEGALLY IMPOSED UPON SUCH BUSINESS; AND SETTING OUT CERTAIN CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH SAID BUS- INESS IS TO BE OPERATED, AND PROVIDING FOR THE FORFEITURE OF SAID FRANCHISE AND THE METHOD OF REINSTATING SAME; PROVIDING FOR A WRI'1ThN ACCEPTANCE TO BE DELIVERED TO THE CITY: SECRETARY. Special Council Meeting June 8, 1961 Page 2 The foregoing ordinance was re -read as the third time and passed finally by the following vote: Swantner, Barnard, de Leon and Young voting "Aye", McDonald and Maldonado, abstaining, and Roberts voting "Nay". Motion by Roberts, seconded by Barnard and passed that T. Ray Kring be appointed Acting City Manager during the absence from the City of City Manager Whitney from Saturday, June 10, through Tuesday, June 13, 1961. There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting was adjourned.
