SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING
April 30, 1962
10:30 P.M.
City Manager Herbert W. Whitney
City Attorney I. M. Singer
City Secretary T. Ray Kring
Mayor McDonald inquired of Chairman of Zoning & Planning Commission H. J.
Ayers if his Commission was ready to make a recommendation concerning the annexa-
tion of certain territory to the City after hearing the recommendation of the
Capital Improvement Committee. Mr. Ayers requested a few minutes time to confer
with members of the Zoning & Planning Commission. Within approximately ten min-
utes Mr. Ayers reported that it was the unanimous decision of the Zoning & Planning
Commission that the area in question, as indicated on maps on display in the Council
Chamber, consisting of 25.5 sq.mi. of land area and 23.5 sq.mi. of water area,
should be annexed to the City.
Mayor McDonald inquired if any member of the City Council had any comments
regarding the subject.
Commissioner Roberts questioned the advisability of including two small
areas, one adjacent to the Great Southern Refinery, and the C. C. Country Club, in
the annexation. In general there was agreement that the election should be called
on the matter by passing an ordinance on its first reading tonight. It was agreed
that possibly modifications or amendments would be made before the final reading
of the ordinance.
Commissioner Barnard directed the records reflect that the area and
other aspects of the ordinance would remain under study pending the final passage
of the ordinance.
